College Raptor

The Project

College Raptor is a college planning tool. It's a whole new way to make smarter decisions about US college. The project offers side-by-side comparisons of estimated financial aid packages along with simplified campus match scores and admission chances based on the financial position of the student.

With College Raptor, students and families have the power to arrive at the best decisions. Not only can they find the schools that best fit their academic and career goals, but they can find the institutions that are more affordable, reduce their need for student debt and create a plan for maximizing their chances of getting in and receiving the most aid.

Scope of Work

The goal of the project was a complete redesign of the existing website. Using cutting edge technologies such as .Net 4.5, jQuery 2.x, HTML5 & CSS3 the website has been redesigned responsively to be compatible with all browsers and all devices. This gave an advantage of coding only once but serving the website on all platforms and all form factors.

Result

The project was delivered before the start of spring session in US helping students and parents to make decisions about the college admission. Information was categorised logically & intuitively allowing users to find information within a matter of minutes of what would normally would have taken days & weeks. This resulted in quick & easy decision making for the students and parents in choosing the correct fit. The users could also use the website in a browser and device of their choice allowing them to work on admissions on anytime of the day from anywhere.

 

Indian Bio Resource Information Network (IBIN)

The Client

UAS-GKVK, Bangalore successfully implemented the Indian Bio Resource Information Network (IBIN) with the goals to network and promote an open ended, co-evolutionary growth among all the loosely coupled digital databases related to biological resources of the country and to add value to the databases by integration and sharing.The project was funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. Participating BRIC Centers are: UAS-Bangalore, Institute of Ayurveda & Integrative Medicine-FRLHT-Bangalore, CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bio Resource Technology, North-Eastern Hill University-Shillong, ATREE-Bangalore, University of Calcutta, and IIRS-Dehradun.

The Project

IBIN was conceived about a decade ago to fill the gaps by answering how many species of plants and animals we have and correct usage of the scientific names of some of the most important plants. These gaps were especially critical to conservation managers, bio prospecting scientists and the ecologists. Such information was also significant to our end users like scientists, biodiversity managers, ecologists, medicine and other industries along with common man. IBIN is uniquely placed as a single portal data provider on India's bio resource - plant, animal, marine, spatial distribution and microbial resources.The main node is at UAS, very specifically at School of Ecology and Conservation, UAS GKVK Bangalore. The other core node is at IIRS Dehradun.

Scope of Work

Indian Bio Resource Information Network (IBIN) was conceived as the national portal for Indian bio resources where all the databases and information systems on the bio resources and biodiversity elements are brought together in an easily compatible and accessible format. The portal also aims at offering these datasets in different languages. IBIN datasets are now served through the web site (www.ibin.co.in) and also through other electronic output formats (e.g., Jeeva Sampada; Jeev Manachitra - Biodiversity Characterization at Landscape Level Outputs). Indian Bio Resource Information Network (IBIN) shall be developed further as a distributed national infrastructure to serve relevant information on diverse themes and of issues of bio resources of the country to a range of end users.

Indian Bio Resource Information Network (IBIN) developed to serve information on diverse themes and of issues of bio resources of the country to its end users with the following scope.

Arrow Metadata submission module.
Arrow XML schema creation for data providers and web publishing utility.

Result

UAS-GKVK, Bangalore was able to successfully implement the Indian Bio Resource Information Network (IBIN) Portal by integrating the digital databases related to biological resources of the country.First time in India, IBIN is providing data from both satellite-based remote sensing and inventories in the field. Together they complement in offering spatial data on the web-based geo-server programmes with international standards of coding. The distribution data is offered in the background of the Bhuvan's layers from NRSC/ IIRS which are perhaps the most detailed contextual spatial data sets for the ecologists to interpret the ecological requirements, habitat features etc., for the species. IBIN is also providing services to the end users in form of spatial modelling.

The Client

Vivid Orange Limited (VO) is a UK based information technology company specializing in custom solutions to manage donations to charitable organizations from the general public and large corporations, including Fortune 500 companies.

The Project

The company wanted to create a web portal application, to allow charities to present information about their cause, needs and volunteer opportunities to corporate employees. The site needed a sophisticated content management system and customization capabilities to allow VO’s clients to tailor portals to accommodate their individual requirements using simple administration functions.

Result

Today, technical web site development knowledge is not required by VO clients to customize their sites. The new system currently supports 1600 UK charities, and the software has been deployed to a number of VO corporate clients.

Kosovo Government Payroll Management System

The Client

In 2004, the government of Kosovo solicited bids for the development of a payroll management system for government employees, following its designation as a UN protectorate

The Project

The payroll management system would need to support 100,000 employees across a significant range of functionality. Included in the system is dynamic support for multiple languages, flexible definition of pay periods, support for tax schedules and withholding rates specified via an administration function, deferred payments, comprehensive employee-related data management, and a sophisticated fine-grained security model to protect the integrity of the system.

Result

In six months a robust product was delivered to the client and the Kosovo Ministry of Public Affairs was immediately able to utilize the system to pay the salaries of all government employees throughout Kosovo. Remote access for individual municipalities was provided allowing end users to provide information on the number of hours worked, holidays taken etc. A significant increase in productivity and accuracy was achieved.

The Client

Neural Technologies Ltd (NT), is a leading UK provider of sophisticated fraud detection and management systems to the telecommunications industry worldwide.

The Project

The company needed to create a product that would allow their customers' technical staff to manage the stream of alerts generated by the NT system in a comprehensive and coherent manner. The client application required detailed application configuration management, complex fraud event filtering criteria and fraud case management, including a sophisticated "superticket" feature that would allow case managers to work with groups of event data records as a single entity, sophisticated workflow management to ensure optimal handling of cases, and a GIS viewer allowing analysts to graphically view call origin-destination pairs. To ensure security of the operations supported, the system needed to include LDAP authentication and feature access according to users' assignments to administrator-configurable groups.

Automated Regression Test Development

WhiteLight Systems

The Client

WhiteLight Systems successfully developed and implemented a variety of analytical, risk analysis applications for banks and financial institutions in the U.S. and internationally. The suite of products allowed clients to accelerate and streamline the process of building analytic applications that drive critical business decisions. It enabled companies to both understand historical data and explore potential future actions and outcomes using interactive analysis.

The Project

The company wanted to focus their core technical team on mission-critical application development and establish a relationship with an experienced IT outsourcing organization that could augment their in-house quality assurance team. The task was to develop automated regression test scripts and perform functional testing for the risk analysis products. These products had long development cycles and Whitelight required a relationship with an organization that could provide a stable team for approximately three years with minimal turnover.

Result

WhiteLight was able to deliver robust products to the marketplace on an accelerated time schedule and keep core engineering staff focused on mission-critical application development. The flexibility of using the NIT Extended Development Centre allowed the company to scale up and scale down the resources deployed on projects to meet the demands of their marketplace.

Distributed Enterprise Application

Airport Authority of India

The Client

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is responsible for the operations at all airports throughout India.

The Project

In 2001, AAI solicited bids for the development of a complete set of software solutions to manage all aspects of the operations of the New Delhi and Hyderabad airports. The only functions not handled by this software are actual air traffic control functions related to inflight control of commercial and private flights throughout the country.

Arrow Developed four comprehensive modules to meet the client's specification.
 
Arrow The AIMS (Airport Information Management System) module handles all aspects of gate use, customer complaint tracking, passenger information screens and other information and financial management systems.
Arrow The ATBS (Air Traffic Billing System) module handles all charges for airport and airway facilities use by automatically extracting information from the Indian air traffic control systems and also permits manual input of information.
Arrow The IAMMAP (Inventory and Maintenance Management Application) module manages the inventories and maintenance of capital equipment and facilities.
Arrow The AFMS (Airport Frequency Management System) module allows the Indian central authority to allocate specific frequencies for ATC communications and radio navigation facilities. A complex system enforces guidelines for geographic and frequency spectrum separation.

Result

NIT won this contract by competing against a highly qualified field of competitors and the client/NIT business relationship that has developed has established a strong partnership for a complete rollout to all Indian airports.
